Lawn Sprinkler Systems - New Installation

Installing an sprinkler system can be a complex process depending on the size and sophistication of the landscape. Careful planning of a new sprinkler system is critical to the long term commitment of delivering water to and maintaining a healthy and vibrant landscape.

It begins with the irrigation design and the proper use of available water. In some cases there isn’t enough available water to meet the landscape needs and a well will have to be installed and or a new water service will have to be purchased from the municipality to provide adequate water. Carefully marking out the locations of all the sprinkler equipment is required before installation can begin. Meeting with homeowner, project manager and landscape architect before commencing work is a good idea in order to limit surprises and misunderstandings. It is important to know everything about the site before starting this includes the location of:

  • Turf, trees, shrubs, shrub beds, and gardens
  • Driveways, patios, and walkways,
  • Pools, spas, fire pits
  • Underground utilities such as gas, electric, telephone, and cable
  • Drainage systems
  • Septic and sewer
  • Outdoor lighting
  • Possible future additions & chang

Carefully installing 'sprinkler system' equipment without damaging property and structures is critical aspect to improving any property. At Rain Rich, we have installed over 6000 lawn sprinkler systems over the past 28 years on many different kinds of properties such as golf courses, parks, and athletic fields, and estates, commercial and residential properties. The properties vary in size and scope and all required different sprinkler equipment and different installation techniques. The typical basic lawn sprinkler system requires over 50 different components to be assembled onsite, connected, tested, and programmed in order to operate properly. Rain Rich has all the necessary equipment to accurately install a lawn sprinkler systems to proper depth including; trenchers of all sizes, pipe pulling equipment, backhoe, and pneumatic missiles. All areas disturbed by installation are properly backfilled, tamped, and raked. The system is checked back on every few weeks after install.

Installation includes proper pressurizing of the system and to make final adjustments. Adjustments include proper rotation, spray, and distance to insure head to head coverage. The controller is programmed to water odd or even days at very early time in morning. Typically, we set the system to activate at between 2am and 4 am and complete its run cycle before 6am. Early morning watering is most efficient time for the following reason: greatest water availability, best water pressure, little wind, and little or no evaporation. Installing water conserving devices is important to preserving our water resources and saving dollars unnecessarily spent. These devices include Toro rain sensors, hunter solar sync, and rainbird soil moisture sensors. Also, Netafim low volume drip irrigation in the right places such as; shrub borders, seashore windy areas, and odd shapes will save much water and is actually better for plants and lawns. Rain Rich has many happy clients that have experience our attention to detail and a concern for their landscape. When requested, Rain Rich can provide references of the many different types of irrigation system installed.
